The Original Quiz Edition took place between 2014 and 2017 at Vienna’s famous Café Drechsler, near the Naschmarkt. Hosts Helmut R. Nowak and Erich Zawinul presented delicious, funky, and soulful jazz, accompanied by the finest jazz questionnaires. In 2021, Erich tragically passed away from complications related to COVID-19.
In 2023, in memory of their beloved friend, Helmut R. Nowak and Alexander Spritzendorfer revived the quiz. The new venue is the Hotel am Brillantengrund, and the quiz has been reimagined as a Sunday brunch event. Helmut is in charge of researching the questions, while Alexander moderates the event. The new hosts have taken the quiz to the next level: all questions and answers, music examples, as well as winner listings and images of the contestants, are now available on the website www.thejazzquiz.com
